Did you just throw a product out the door to get some money rolling in or did you take your time and make sure it was all completed to high standards?Īll of these things factor into my decision as to whether or not your product is worth the asking price.Can I customise the scenery to display or remove various elements I may or may not want?.How well optimised is the scenery? Is it a framerate or memory hog?.How much scenery do I get beyond the airport boundary?.High quality modelling and texture work?.I think there's a lot to take into consideration when talking about price points. It will be easier to stand out on xplane at the moment if your work is excellent. There is a market that is already willing to pay for quality there, though ofc greater competition. The issue is textures are time and resource intensive, and guys like flightbeam and ORBX have the teams to do it.ĭon't forget - with V4 round the corner and likely to be 64 bit, maybe think twice about nailing your colours only to xplane's mast.

Flat, unworked textures or stuck on photos dont really cut it anymore, and there are even some very new devs that are putting older more established ones to shame with their texture work. Texturing is the current separator of excellent sceneries from "ok" sceneries. At the other end of your spectrum you are looking at ORBX airports, which usually have excellent modeling, very nice texturing and extensive surrounding area modeling, with blended / colour matched ortho. For me £24 ($30) is what I would spend on FlyTampa Montreal, so I would be looking for quality equal to or better than that. I own a lot of airports on P3D, less on xplane, but for me I would compare your work to what I already own and buy. At the same time however, the amount of time and effort spent developing quality payware scenery is astronomical. If you look at it, two airports in that price range would almost cost as much as the sim itself. I understand that this may seem like a lot for scenery of just an airport, so that's why I'd just like to get other people's perspective on airport pricing.

For my efforts I've been putting in so far, I'd want to charge somewhere around $25-30 for my scenery.

My question to you guys is - Is the price of scenery off putting? I ask this especially given that XPlane users have made due with freeware for a longer amount of time before the payware scene started to grow and many have been resistant to payware, especially payware scenery - Quite similar to the old days of flight simulator when payware first started becoming a thing. I can achieve a far greater level of detail on XPlane and have even better framerates too. I'd originally been developing for P3D but have since started working on XPlane due to it not being as limiting and consulted as FSX when it comes to scenery design. I recently switched from P3D and am developing scenery for KCVG Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Intl.
